Katy Downing is a versatile actress, comedian, and writer whose work spans theater, television, film, and stand-up comedy. She began her career in the vibrant New York City theater scene, training with some of the most respected names in the craft, including Earle Gister, Chris Bayes, Catherine Fitzmaurice, and Slava Dolgechev at The Actors Center, as well as The Shakespeare Lab at The Public Theater.

Her early career included workshops on intimate and experimental productions such as Bone Songs (André Gregory, New York Theatre Workshop) and summers at the renowned Chautauqua Theater Company under the direction of Ethan McSweeny and Vivienne Benesch. One of her most memorable roles was Honey in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, where her unexpected comedic timing and layered performance revealed her ability to make audiences laugh while navigating complex, emotionally charged material.

Now based in Los Angeles, Katy is a proud member of Pacific Resident Theater, where she has appeared in numerous acclaimed productions. In Theresa Rebeck’s What We Are Up Against, she played Janice—a character who “followed all the rules… until the rules changed”—showcasing her skill in both drama and sharp, satirical comedy. Most recently, her performance in Fostered earned praise for her “serious comedic chops,” further cementing her natural ability to move effortlessly between heartfelt drama and razor-sharp humor.

In addition to her stage work, Katy is expanding her presence in television and film. She appeared in a high-profile national commercial for Target, highlighting her background as a yoga enthusiast, and continues to book on-camera work that blends authenticity with charm. Katy has also brought her wit to the stand-up stage, performing at notable venues such as Flappers Comedy Club and the Kookaburra Lounge.

Currently, she trains with Gregory Berg for acting and works with Killian for commercial performance, continuing to refine her craft. Whether on stage, on screen, or behind a microphone, Katy Downing captivates audiences with her visceral performances, comedic instinct, and ability to reveal the many sides of a character—sweet, fierce, deep, or delightfully over-the-top.
